Picking a window treatment for a large window can feel daunting. Here are some pointers to help you find the right product for your tricky window. When picking a product for the whole home, I always start with the trouble windows because they will dictate how we approach all the other windows.

What is considered a “big” window? Most products have a maximum width of 94". This means that anything over 94” will need to be in multiple pieces. This can cause issues with privacy or light control as there will need to be a gap somewhere in the window. The maximum width is usually due to a weight issue. Some products are just too heavy to operate correctly over 94”. However, there are still options available! Let’s break it down.

Cellular or Honeycomb Shades:

These shades are made of cells/pleats, that from the side have a honeycomb shape. This makes them lightweight and capable of covering large expanses, up to 192”, in one piece.

Looking for something clean, simple and minimal? Roller or Solar shades are for you. This style of shade is capable of widths up to 144”. These shades have a wide range of opacities and privacy levels. Since they do not have any internal strings, they require very little maintenance or repairs.
